Contactless Measurement of Surface Temperature
Thermopiles are used for contactless temperature measurement and are available as components and modules. Thermopiles are multiple thermocouples that use the Seebeck Effect. The measurement principle is based on the detection of infrared radiation, using micro-machined devices in silicon-based technology. The device's inherent DC coupling characteristic allows the operation without a mechanical chopper.

HL Planartechnik offers thermopile components in TO-18 and TO-5 packages. They are available either as a one-element detector or as an eight-element linear array.
The sensor input is radiation and outputs are the thermopile voltage and the connections to the ambient temperature nickel RTD or NTC. By changing the optical elements eg plain windows, silicon windows, silicon lens or mirror, the sensor can be individually adapted to your applications.
